Well after countless hours of traveling, my dad and I was able to reach SM Mega Mall to be a part of history not just for Philippine Cinema but for our own little family as well.
My dad and I was invited to see Dayo, an animated movie produced by Cutting Edge Production, what's interesting too is the fact the the things that you see in the movie was the part of our own little childhood.
To give you an idea, when you see the movie notice that the uniform being used by the characters are very distinct to one school in manila, paco manila to be exact.
Well enough about the clues one thing I could say after watching the movie is that kids would love it. The story is great, the characters are very Filipino and are well thought of and the rest the say is history.
But unfortunately here are some of my comments too...My Top 10 Comments
10. I love the OBB it looked like an OBB for a class E TV show. The Simpsons/Family Guy/American Dad and almost all the cartoon TV show OBB introduces the characters first. Something to established them and their role in the film, not so much of the people who directed it. Sorry the directors name was so huge that I never got the chance to read the rest.
9. Wow you call that Elemantalia? It kinda looked like a park somewhere in Manila... Im thinking of Luneta. I was wondering after watching the first ever trailer made for the film where the waterfalls was coming from the letter O in the word Dayo, that looked more mystical than what ever was shown during the duration of the film. Budget cuts? I hope not...
8. Does the editor or director of this film knows the meaning of editing? I mean you could have done better in one establishing the shots and not cutting the film. Denver the last dinosaur was edited better than this film.... is that the reason why your company is called cutting edge ? hehehe !
7. Dolby Digital...hmm try again.
6. Good thing the syncing of the voice went well in toonboom. Good job in it!
5. How does one make a mistake in 2d and 3d...look that scene where Buboy was tasked to get the water thing...
4. What ever happened to the word establishing shot?
3. Have you ever thought of using the rule of thirds? I mean seriously ?
2. Lighting ... very crucial in an animated film... one must know the difference of night and day in Elementalia.
1. Ever thought of using the title action/safe guide? watch the ending credits..you'll get my point. How does it feel for your name to get cut during the most important part of the film..giving credits to the thousand of people who worked on this project.
I would say that this film was a gauge of what your company can deliver, because your company employed people who knows what they are doing but somethings got to give I guess. The story is great and the animation design is very Filipino...but something happened and thats something I cant figure out. Well good luck on Dayo ! I hope this movie would be a good learning experience for the producers and specially the director of the film.... try to be more creative next time and try to act your role more responsibly.
